1PN63 / NPO-1

The 1PN63 night vision goggles, also known as the NPO-1 or "Quaker" (Kvaker), are a Soviet-era binocular night vision device. They utilize an image intensifier called EPV22G, a Generation 0+ / 1+ device with an S-20/25 photocathode. Developed by LZOS or ROMZ, they were often issued with the NPK-1 "Kanadit" laser. While the 1PN63 is occasionally seen on the western market, the NPK-1 has not been widely observed.
The 1PN63 is a product of Soviet military technology, specifically from the latter part of the Cold War era. The core technology is the EPV22G image intensifier tube. This tube is a single-chamber, electrostatically focused device with an S-20/25 photocathode, a spherical photocathode, and fiber optic input/output. The 1PN63 was manufactured by either LZOS (Lytkarino Optical Glass Factory) or ROMZ (Rybinsk Optical and Mechanical Plant). It positions itself between the early Generation 0+ active infrared devices and the more advanced Generation 1+ devices.
