AN/VVS-2

The AN/VVS-2 is a driver's night vision viewer used in tanks, primarily for the M60 series, and later for other vehicles. It was developed in the 1970s and saw production throughout the 1980s and early 1990s. The system allows tank drivers to operate in low-light conditions or complete darkness, enhancing their situational awareness and operational capabilities.
The AN/VVS-2 was developed for the US Army, with an engineering development contract awarded in 1971. The first production contract was awarded in 1975 for 1,257 units. The first armor units were equipped with the AN/VVS-2 in 1978. A five-year "OMNIBUS I" contract was awarded in 1985, with 11,418 units produced. A three-year "OMNIBUS II" contract followed in 1990. The production of the AN/VVS-2 for the OMNIBUS I contract ended in 1991, and for the OMNIBUS II contract in 1994. The AN/VVS-2 was a significant night vision system for tank drivers during its operational period, providing improved visibility in low-light conditions.
