L3 LWTS-LR

The L3 LWTS-LR (Light Weapon Thermal Sight - Long Range) is a military-grade, uncooled thermal optic. Developed in the 2010s by L3 Warrior Systems (now part of L3Harris / EOTECH), it was designed to give snipers and troops the ability to identify targets at extreme distances through total darkness, light rain, and smoke.

L3 introduced the baseline LWTS as a cost-effective, uncooled thermal sight. It was seen as a major leap forward, allowing users to hit targets at ranges previously only possible with heavy, cooled thermal cameras. Recognizing the need for even greater detection, the manufacturer released the LWTS-LR (Long Range). It extended the capabilities of the original design for designated marksman and sniper roles. The system is now considered aging technology compared to modern systems, but it remains a highly durable, combat-proven unit. It uses a 640 × 480 microbolometer (a sensor that detects heat rather than light) with advanced 17 μm pixel technology. The thermal capability is extremely powerful. The LR (Long Range) version can detect a standing human up to 3,697 m away and a tank up to 5,669 m away. Troops can see through camouflage and fog without needing active infrared lasers, which can give away their position to the enemy.
